  4. Phase

A LFO generates a LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) signal for the oscillators, the filter and the amplifier as a modulation source. Exciton has two LFO's (LFO1 and LFO2) and each LFO's have the same function.

5.7.1. Wave

Specifies the LFO waveform.

Sine, triangle, sawtooth, square, sample&hold and random are available. Waveforms can be combined (64 combinations in total). If you combine multiple waveforms, the result is the average of combined waveforms.

5.7.2. Mode

Sets the operation modes of the LFO.

(1) MONO

Switches the polyphonic/monophonic mode of the LFO.

For the polyphonic mode (MONO off), each voices have the individual LFO's. For the monophonic mode (MONO on), single LFO is used for every voices.

Using with the polyphonic mode, voices have each LFO units and their phases are randomized within voices. To the contrary, all voices use the same LFO for the monophonic mode. The difference is important for some cases as follows.

If you use the unison mode and use a LFO for detune, you ought to use it with polyphonic mode. The each LFO's change signals randomly and detunes the oscillators within voices.

On the other hand, if you use a LFO with the sample&hold waveform for a sound sequence, you should use with monophonic mode. Modulations for all the voices are synchronized with the monophonic mode and all voices are changed at the same timing.

(2) TRIG

Synchronizes waveform trigger to the MIDI note-on messages.

(3) TEMPO

Specifies how to set the LFO speed.

When TEMPO is off, LFO speed is specified by the frefuency [Hz]. With TEMPO on, you can set LFO speed with the sequencer tempo.

5.7.3. Speed

Sets the LFO speed.

When TEMPO is off, LFO speed is specified by the frefuency [Hz]. With TEMPO on, you can set LFO speed with the sequencer tempo.

5.7.4. Phase

Sets the LFO phase.

This sets the LFO phase offset.

The main purpose of LFO phase parameter is to set the waveform trigger position. Using with TRIG switch, you can set the start position of the waveform with note-on messages.

Another usage of LFO phase is to change the LFO speed with phase modulation. You can use assignable modlation to set LFO phase modulation.
